The department expressed enthusiasm over the addition of these electric vehicles, which are recognized for their unique angular design and durable features, to be used in patrol and SWAT operations. "The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is excited to announce that we will be adding 10 Tesla Cybertrucks to our fleet! These cutting-edge vehicles will be customized for LVMPD patrol and SWAT, helping our officers protect and serve with the latest technology," their social media post read. Noteworthy in the department's acclaim, is the fact that no taxpayer dollars were spent on acquiring these vehicles. An anonymous donor generously provided the full fleet.
LVMPD stated that the addition of these vehicles is not just about aesthetic upgrades or the adoption of electric mobility, but a step forward in improving operational technology. Sheriff McMahill views the Cybertrucks as part of the department's efforts to enhance innovation and safety. As elucidated in the department's announcement, the vehicles are to work in concert with "our expanding use of semi-autonomous drones connected to shot-spotting technology."
