Las Vegas marks the somber anniversary of Sergeant Henry Prendes, who was killed in the line of duty 19 years ago. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) honored him in a Facebook post, remembering his service to the community with courage, compassion, and a commitment to justice. Sgt. Prendes tragically lost his life while responding to a domestic disturbance on February 1, 2006, after joining the LVMPD on February 26, 1991.
The post highlighted Prendes' dedication and faith, noting that he often carried a Bible in his patrol car, symbolizing the strength and kindness he was known for. Tragically, at 37 years old, Sgt. Prendes was ambushed during a violent family disturbance. Despite the sad nature of the anniversary, the emphasis remains on his legacy of bravery and dedication that continues to inspire members of the LVMPD and the community at large.
In honor of his memory, a candlelight display is planned this evening at Henry Prendes Park. Located at 8855 Hidden Palms Pkwy., Las Vegas, NV 89123, the community is invited from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to support the fallen officer's friends and family. The LVMPD's post further urged, "Please come and show your support for his friends and family!”
While Sgt. Prendes is no longer with us, the heartfelt commemoration from LVMPD and the evening's event are testaments to a community's love and respect for those in uniform who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
