Las Vegas residents are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the German supermarket chain Aldi, known for its cost-saving measures and private-label brands. The buzz around town has been growing since rumors began circulating about the opening dates for three new Aldi locations in the valley, with a previously spotted April 16 date on Google Maps causing a stir among future shoppers. However, Aldi officials have not confirmed this date and have since conveyed that store openings are expected later in the spring.
According to a statement obtained by the Review-Journal, Shawn Eddy, a divisional vice president at Aldi, expressed the company's excitement about the upcoming store launches in the area. Exact dates remain under wraps, but anticipation continues to build as the company aims to rapidly expand, announcing plans in March to add 800 stores nationwide by the end of 2028, with a notable presence in Las Vegas. This expansion would significantly increase Aldi's footprint in the U.S. market.
The first of the new valley stores, set to open at 611 Marks St., will be located next to a Best Buy near the Galleria at Sunset mall in Henderson. The other two stores will find their homes in the southwest valley and North Las Vegas. While the Henderson location takes over a portion of a closed Bed, Bath & Beyond, the North Las Vegas store is set to occupy space in a former 24 Hour Fitness facility, and the southwest location appears to be in a newly constructed building, indicating the grocery chain's investment in both existing infrastructure and new developments.
Aldi's approach to grocery selling is rather unique, opting to maintain low operating costs by selling primarily private-label items, minimizing staff by not offering bagging services, and implementing a 25-cent cart deposit system. These strategies are part of what allows the chain to claim it can save customers up to 40% on their grocery bills. The upcoming stores have local shoppers intrigued, looking forward to experiencing Aldi's promise of thrift and value firsthand. "We have lots of fun plans coming to the market so as we get closer to the opening, we’ll be sure to reach back out with more details on the new stores," Eddy told 8 News Now, hinting at future events and openings poised to engage the Las Vegas community.
