Two young sisters are being praised for saving a toddler from a near-drowning incident at their Lauderhill home. As reported by WSVN, the incident occurred yesterday just before 6 p.m. when the boy, found in his neighbors' pool, began struggling in the water. Emily and Melanie Altuve heard the cries and immediately took action. Emily said, "Only his nose and his mouth was above the water."
Melanie recalled the moment to WSVN, saying, "I was scared. At the moment, I really – I didn’t think of anything. So I just yelled there was someone in the pool, but my sister took quick action, and she went outside, like, very quickly to grab him, and then I came after." Investigators believe the boy entered the pool through a broken fence. Lauderhill police are continuing their investigation while paramedics transported the boy to the hospital. He was listed as stable, conscious, and breathing.
In an interview with NBC Miami, the toddler's father expressed his deep gratitude to the Altuve sisters for their life-saving actions. "One second is all it takes," he said.
The sisters' mother performed CPR on the child until officers arrived. The boy was conscious and breathing by the time rescuers reached him. The boy's father explained that his son had slipped out of sight while the family was at home. He thanked the Altuve sisters for their prompt actions, acknowledging that without them, his son might not be alive today.
