
A routine traffic stop in Laurel by detectives of the Western District yesterday has led to the arrest of a 19-year-old man after a loaded handgun was found in his possession. According to an Anne Arundel County Police press release, the stop occurred at around 4:50 p.m. near Russet Green West and Orient Fishtail Road, where authorities pulled over a gray 2008 Honda Civic.
The police report states that during the stop, an officer discovered a loaded 9mm Polymer 80 handgun in the waistband of passenger Deon William Hawkins-Proctor, despite him being prohibited from owning firearms, now he is facing charges related to the weapons violation. Hawkins-Proctor, a resident of Laurel, Maryland, has been taken into custody.
Initial reports do not elaborate on the circumstances leading up to the traffic stop or the reason Hawkins-Proctor was barred from possessing a firearm. The specifics of the charges Hawkins-Proctor is facing have not been released.
