The Lawrenceville Arts Center is currently playing host to a significant exhibition that pays homage to a towering figure in the American Civil Rights Movement and a man of many hats – Ambassador Andrew Young. "The Many Lives of Andrew Young" is an exhibit that's now freely open to the public and will be until March 31, the City of Lawrenceville announced in a recent statement. It showcases the various chapters from Young's life as an activist, pastor, politician, and diplomat, through a curated display of photographs and artifacts. Dedicated to his contributions in the realms of social justice, equality, and global diplomacy, the exhibition aims to not just celebrate but educate.
Ambassador Young was not only a pivotal member of the Civil Rights Movement, but he also carved his name in history books as the first African American U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, a U.S. Congressman, and the Mayor of Atlanta, noted for his role in bringing the 1996 Olympic Games to the city. His work helped to notably elevate Atlanta's status on the world stage. "It is a privilege for the City of Lawrenceville to showcase this impactful exhibition at the Lawrenceville Arts Center, offering our community a chance to reflect on Ambassador Young’s extraordinary legacy," said Mayor David Still, as per the City of Lawrenceville's release.
The Lawrenceville Arts Center isn't stopping at the exhibition alone. February 17 sees a special event, "A Conversation with Andrew Young", set to unfold at the center, where attendees will have the chance to directly interact with the icon himself. Esteemed journalist Ernie Suggs will be there to moderate a fireside chat with Ambassador Young, where they will dive deep into discussions about his profound influence on civil rights, American politics, and international diplomacy.
