Residents in Lewisville and Castle Hills, brace yourselves for an upcoming shake-up in your trash and recycling routine. Starting on Feb. 3, significant changes are taking place – impacting service schedules and costing you less for trash pickup. The City of Lewisville is consolidating these services to streamline collection and boost efficiency across neighborhoods.
The shift in providers means that about one-third of the residents who were using Republic Services and all current customers of Community Waste Disposal (CWD) in Castle Hills will need to mark their calendars for a new collection day. According to the City of Lewisville's announcement, the adjustments are part of a plan to merge CWD customers into the existing Republic franchise, a move aiming at reducing road damage and achieving more punctual pick-up times for the waste services.
For those used to seeing their trash and recycling whisked away twice a week, the frequency will dial down to once a week once these changes take effect. While this adjustment might require some getting used to, it comes with a silver lining – a reduction of up to $11 in base monthly bills for former CWD customers now transitioning to Republic Services.
It might seem like the current Republic clients in Lewisville have dodged a bullet with these changes, but they're not entirely exempt. A notable number of residents – around 7,000 addresses – will also see a change in their weekly pick-up day as routes are redrawn to optimize services. However, you can keep the space in your wallet intact, as there are no anticipated billing fluctuations for these existing Republic customers. Moreover, per the City's announcement, the Republic's contract has the appeal of an annual service charge cap, something the CWD contract didn't offer.
