Lewisville's "Giving is Golden" Program Rallies Community Support for Local Nonprofits with Donation DrivesSource: U, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons

The City of Lewisville is stepping up again with its "Giving is Golden" program, an effort aimed at supporting local nonprofits through donation drives. In the spirit of community and service, the program focuses on collecting specific items sought by beneficiary agencies. The current collection initiative, which began in February and runs through mid-March, is in aid of MetroRelief, targeting to accumulate tube socks, as per the City of Lewisville.

In the coming months, residents have ample opportunity to give back. April will see a drive collecting a slew of essential items like paper towels, toilet paper, feminine hygiene products, toothpaste, and shampoo. These donations are to support the efforts of organizations such as Christian Community Action, Journey to Dream, and Communities in Schools of North Texas, as well as full-size bath items for the Children’s Advocacy Center of North Texas. Then, in June, Serve Lewisville will need office and cleaning supplies, and the focus in August shifts to children's literacy and wellness with a book drive alongside a collection of diapers, and baby wipes for Book Drive for Kids, PediPlace, and Health Services of North Texas.

The goal for "Giving is Golden" is more than just collecting items — it's about reaching a significant mark, specifically 2,025 units of the requested items for each drive. To make this goal more achievable, and to foster a spirit of local camaraderie, the program has coordinated with multiple Lewisville locations for convenient drop-off points. Participating sites include Lewisville City Hall, Lewisville Visitor Information Center, Thrive, the Lewisville Public Library, and the Lewisville Grand Theater. Furthering accessibility, collections will also coincide with some city-sponsored festivals such as ColorPalooza and Sounds of Lewisville.
