Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced that Little Elm has been officially designated as the 75th Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO), according to a press release by the Governor's Office. This designation comes as part of a multi-step program initiated by TMO in 2016 to boost music-related economic development in the state.
The governor offered his congratulations, noting Little Elm's recent recognition as both a Film Friendly and a Tourism Friendly Certified Community within the past three months, "Music Friendly Texas Communities work tirelessly to attract and develop the local music industry to boost local job creation and economic growth," Abbott said, as mentioned in the same press release. His statement highlighted the Texas music industry's contribution of 196,000 jobs and over $31.7 billion in economic activity across the state.
Senator Tan Parker and Senator Brent Hagenbuch mirrored the governor's sentiments in their statements, commending Little Elm's dedication to fostering a vibrant local arts scene. Senator Parker cited music's role in bringing communities together and driving economic growth, while Senator Hagenbuch emphasized the benefits of the designation for local artists, music venues, and industry professionals.
Representative Richard Hayes lauded the town's commitment to cultural development, stating "This designation highlights the town’s growing cultural scene and reflects a strong commitment to supporting local artists and music-related businesses," as reported by the Governor's Office. Mayor Curtis Cornelious and Tourism & Communications Director Drew Bailey of Little Elm were also quoted, expressing their excitement for the recognition and for the support it brings to local music initiatives. Meanwhile, local business owner Jay Mazur noted that events like the Lakefront Concert Series and Brew & Que have positive impacts on hospitality businesses, bringing in visitors and boosting tourism.
The official certification ceremony is set to take place on March 4 at Little Elm Town Hall, with a presentation from TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist Gini Mascorro. The Texas Music Office, which has been operating since 1990, not only acts as a support platform for the Texas music industry but also positions itself as an intermediary between the music business and governmental offices, while drawing attention to significant movements within the industry and enticing key music interests to the Lone Star State.
