For many high school students and their guardians, the maze of college applications and financial aid is one fraught with confusion and stress. But the local library is stepping up to offer a lifeline. In a recent press release, they announced two upcoming events that are set to demystify the process for aspiring college students.
According to the City of Longmont, the first of these sessions, "College Financial Aid Basics with Front Range Community College," is scheduled for February 27 from 6-7 pm. Representatives from Front Range Community College will cover essential details about the financial aid process, including the FAFSA, grants, and work-study programs. For many students, understanding the ins and outs of how to finance their education is a critical step, and this session promises to offer that understanding, complete with the opportunity for questions and a bonus of free snacks.
For those hungry for more than just financial knowledge, the library is also offering a seminar called "College Application Strategies: A Practical Seminar" on March 1 from 12:30-2 pm, as per the City of Longmont. Professor Emerita Manette Ansay, an Independent Education Consultant with an impressive resume including Cornell and Vanderbilt, will give participants the lowdown on crafting compelling college applications. The seminar also aims to assist students in creating a college list that fits their academic, social, and financial needs. Each family will get a chance to engage with Manette during the Q&A session that follows her presentation.
