The Long Beach Police Department reported multiple shooting incidents and a firearm seizure on the evening of Feb. 19, 2025. Officers first responded to a call in the 1400 block of Rose Avenue, where they discovered a male victim and his dog both suffering from gunshot wounds. According to the LBPD, the incident unfolded when an unidentified vehicle approached the victim while he was walking his dog. Two male suspects emerged from the vehicle, fired at the victim, and fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. The victim's injury was described as non-life-threatening, and emergency services transported him to a local hospital. The pet, also injured in the debacle, received treatment at a local pet clinic for its wounded paw. The LBPD is continuing the investigation into the shooting's motive and the suspects' identities, as relayed in a statement.
In a separate incident on the same evening, LBPD officers seized an un-serialized firearm following an attempted shooting involving a juvenile suspect. The officers were patrolling the 2200 block of E Anaheim Street when they saw the suspect shoot toward two individuals in an alleyway. A brief foot pursuit ensued and resulted in the suspect's detention and arrest. Thankfully, no one was injured in this incident. The juvenile was taken to Long Beach City Jail for booking, as law enforcement works to unravel the events leading up to the arrest.
The police department commended its officers for their "great work" in taking a gun off the streets.
