The Long Beach Police Department reported no shootings or stabbings on Friday night. Instead, LBPD officers demonstrated their commitment to community safety by successfully recovering two firearms during separate traffic stops, as per the official LBPD Blotter released on Saturday.
According to the Blotter, the first recovery happened when a traffic stop was conducted at about 10:27 p.m. on South Street and Atlantic Avenue. The driver of a pocket bike was found in possession of a concealed firearm. The gun, taken from the driver without incident, led to an arrest and the towing of the bike. Officers investigating the scene safely tucked away another gun off the streets, mingling with shadows and streetlights.
The second instance occurred in the early hours of Saturday, with patrol officers stopping a vehicle at around 4:33 a.m. near Cerritos Avenue and 56th Street. The LBPD Blotter notes that the driver was similarly "in possession of a firearm." Following this discovery, law enforcement acted swiftly — the firearm was secured, giving rise to the driver's arrest and the vehicle's impoundment. Both incidents are reportedly still under investigation.
