Those with a green thumb, or those merely aspiring to one, mark your calendars for the upcoming 5th Annual Gardening Fair in Longmont. The local library is hosting the event on Sunday, Feb. 23, from 1-4 pm. And for those looking to start their spring planting, the Free Seed Library is set to open the following week on March 2, offering community members a chance to take home up to six seed packets at no cost.
"We are excited to continue our Free Seed Library and get set up for our 5th Annual Gardening Fair," Library Technician Denise Young said, as per Longmont Library. This event is not just an opportunity to score free seeds, it's a venue to deeply connect with people from local organizations and businesses while gathering expert knowledge on Front Range gardening to help carefully or perhaps impulsively plan out your 2025 garden.
The fair has historically drawn a crowd eager to learn about various gardening topics such as container gardening, companion planting, and water-wise strategies. Longmont Public Library boasts an extensive collection of resources on these subjects and more, in case attendees wish to delve further into the intricacies of Colorado-specific horticulture.
Seed availability is supported by contributions from The Friends of the Longmont Library, ensuring attendees can choose from a variety of vegetable, herb, and flower options. These will be up for grabs in the Library's west Lobby area, but remember, it's while supplies last. The whole affair, situated as it is within the sanctum of communal learning, stands as a testament to the library's dedication to fostering not only literacy but also sustainable growth and local engagement.
