Eric German-Pena, a 25-year-old Lynn resident, has been formally charged with the murder of 48-year-old Lynn local Ilias Mavros, as disclosed by Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker. The arraignment took place last Thursday at Lynn District Court, where German-Pena pleaded not guilty and was ordered to remain in custody without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 6, according to an announcement on the Essex County District Attorney's website.
The investigation began after Lynn Police were called to a Stanwood Street residence for a welfare check at about 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 3. This occurred when family members grew concerned about Mavros's well-being. The responding officers made the grim discovery of Mavros, who bore evident trauma and was declared dead at the scene, as mentioned in the same source.
Following the grim discovery, a joint investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to Tucker's office, the Lynn Police, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was launched to determine the circumstances of the alleged crime—an inquiry that eventually identified German-Pena as the prime suspect in Mavros's death. The case remains under investigation as German-Pena, presumed innocent until proven guilty, awaits upcoming court proceedings.
