The Michigan Department of Transportation will begin a two-year, $140 million reconstruction project on the M-14/I-96 corridor in Livonia and Plymouth Township. The project starts this weekend with lane reductions beginning on Friday, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Michigan Department of Transportation has announced that eastbound M-14/I-96 from Sheldon Road to Newburgh Road will be the focus of reconstruction through late 2025, with westbound work scheduled for 2026. Traffic configurations will change, resulting in lane closures and detours. Beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, closures will include the Newburgh Road ramp to westbound M-14 and multiple connections involving Sheldon Road and I-275. Eastbound M-14 will maintain two open lanes from west of Beck Road to Levan Road until March 7, while westbound M-14 will be reduced to one lane from Levan Road to west of Beck Road through March 6. More information is available at www.M14Reconstruction.org.
On March 7, westbound M-14 will close from I-275 to Sheldon Road until the morning of March 10, with traffic detoured via I-275, I-94, and US-23. Following this phase, eastbound M-14 will be reduced to one lane, while westbound M-14 will have two lanes open, with ramp closures expected to continue into late 2025. The project is projected to support 1,336 jobs, and the Metro Trail is scheduled for upgrades in 2026, as reported by the Michigan Department of Transportation.
