Commuters in Springfield will need to adjust their routes come early March, as MoDOT announced major closures impacting Park Avenue and Fay Avenue, both of which will be sealed off south of Kearney Street. These streets are scheduled to be closed from March 3 through March 7, to allow for critical construction activities related to the Missouri Route 744 and Kearney Street Corridor Upgrades in Greene, according to a MoDOT release.
While Kearney Street (Missouri Route 744) will remain open, travelers should be prepared to absolutely avoid the closure areas during the construction phase. As part of the process, contractor crews will be on site to reconstruct and pave the approaches to Kearney Street. To aid commuters, MoDOT's electronic message boards will be put up near the work zones to alert and quickly update drivers on any changes to the work schedule or traffic routes.
The scope of this project is extensive, featuring a series of upgrades designed to improve the flow and safety of traffic along this busy corridor. It's a significant infrastructure investment, with a reported low bid of $14.9 million that was secured by Capital Paving & Construction, a Columbia-based firm tasked with the execution of these improvements. As per the MoDOT's communication, the project is on track to be completed by the end of the current year, with a deadline set for December 31.
For those relying on daily updates about their commutes, MoDOT directs them to keep a vigilant eye on the Traveler Information Map to ensure that any weather or construction delays won't catch them off guard. Although the goal is to finish on schedule, unanticipated delays could always potentially shuffle the exact timing of road reopenings or additional roadwork.
To minimize disruptions to your daily travels, staying informed on the latest developments as they come to light is the best course of action.
