A 37-year-old man has been arrested in Osceola County for allegedly stealing copper from refrigeration units belonging to The Rock Church, a site known for providing sustenance to the homeless community. According to the ClickOrlando report, the suspect, identified as Alejandro Alfaro, reportedly inflicted damages estimated at $5,000.
Osceola County Sheriff, Marcos Lopez, detailed that a witness observed and photographed Alfaro in the act of loading stolen property onto a wagon hitched to his bicycle around 7:54 p.m. on Saturday; by the following day deputies were called to the scene, this series of events culminated in Alfaro's arrest after an extensive pursuit which ended when deputies cornered him as he attempted to disappear among the pathways of the Seralago Hotel & Suites, fleeing across intersections and thoroughfares. "This clown goes to The Rock Church where we go to feed the less fortunate and the homeless to steal," Sheriff Lopez said in a video posted on social media, as reported by ClickOrlando.
A witness, while speaking with deputies, revealed Alfaro's return to the church the next day, which led to him stealing more components before he escaped on foot. A charging affidavit states that Alfaro denied the theft, claiming proof of his innocence exists in a video carried by a woman.
Jail records indicate that Alfaro now faces grand theft and resisting arrest charges. Orlando-News noted that he remains incarcerated at the Osceola County Jail on a $3,000 bond.
