The College Park Police Department is currently investigating the death of an infant, an event they've described as "tragic." The incident took place on the 2400 block of Old National Parkway, and while details are limited, officials believe this was an isolated incident with no other individuals harmed. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of this individual during this difficult time," Chief C. Rogers conveyed in a statement, according to a FOX 5 Atlanta report.
In a related and more detailed account, a man was charged with the murder of his 3-month-old son who was found deceased in a College Park hotel, as detailed in a report by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Jerry Chambers Jr. allegedly left his son, Joshua, alone in a Travelodge by Wyndham room, went to work, and upon returning did not call for help despite the child being "unresponsive and foaming at the mouth", later staying at another hotel and even returning to work before finally contacting authorities.
The College Park Police Department has yet to release the identity of the child involved in the Old National Parkway incident, focusing their efforts on gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation. The department requests that members of the community contact the College Park Police with any pertinent information that might aid in illuminating the circumstances of this unfortunate death.
As for the case involving Chambers, police indicated in an arrest warrant that the suspect, after finding his child unresponsive, made multiple decisions that delayed potential aid for the infant, including packing a bag and going to another hotel with a friend before calling 911 two days later which clearly paints a picture of neglect and disconcertment over the situation, he has been charged with murder and first-degree cruelty to children and is currently held at the Fulton jail.
