On a Saturday evening a man was fatally struck by a train in the Patch neighborhood. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, District 1 officers received a call around 7:30 PM and arrived at the railroad tracks near the 7900 block of Michigan Ave, where they found an adult male lying beneath a halted train.
The train engineer told the police that initially he mistook the figure on the track for "a pile of trash and clothes," only realizing it was a person upon closer approach. Despite activating the emergency stop brake, the train could not halt in time, resulting in a deadly impact. The Medical Examiner's Office was soon at the scene and took control of the body.
The ongoing investigation by the authorities aims to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident and whether any measures could be implemented to prevent such tragedies in future. Witnesses or anyone with information are encouraged to come forward to aid in the inquiry.
