Early Thursday morning, Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to reports of a man damaging gas pumps and acting erratically at a gas station on North Freeway and West Road. During the encounter, the situation escalated, and deputies fatally shot the 36-year-old man, according to Click2Houston.
Deputies responded to a scene where a male suspect refused to comply with commands and engaged in a physical struggle. A deputy with seven years of experience sustained facial injuries. Both deputies discharged their firearms, and the suspect was taken to the hospital, where he later died. Authorities have not released the identities of the deputies involved, as mentioned by ABC13.
ABC13 reported that a suspect initially followed deputies' orders before resisting arrest. Asst. Chief J. Nanny stated, "In the beginning, he started to comply. He laid down, they got one handcuff on him, and at that point, he started to resist and attempted to disarm the deputy, who had a Taser out at the time." The suspect took the Taser from a deputy, and a female deputy with 15 years on the force then used her firearm. The male deputy was injured and taken to the hospital but is expected to recover. The suspect's name has not been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
