A tragic vehicular accident occurred in Carmichael on Saturday, claiming the life of a man in his 30s. ABC10 reports the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the collision took place at the intersection of Madison Avenue and Manzanita Avenue and was the result of the man driving a sedan westbound on Madison Avenue running a red light.
He then met his fate when his car was struck by a van traveling north on Manzanita Avenue, according to a statement obtained by CBS News Sacramento. The CHP said the van crashed into the left side of the sedan, which led to significant injuries that the sedan driver later succumbed to at the hospital. Details concerning the identification of the sedan driver have not been released.
The driver of the van, described as a man in his 20s, sustained only minor injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where the care for his wounds did not call for much concern regarding his overall prognosis. Investigators were still piecing together the events of the crash.
