Percy Shaquel Rogers, a man accused of sex trafficking a missing girl from Texas to Phoenix, has been indicted on multiple charges. The Maricopa County Attorney's Office announced that Rogers faces nine counts of Child Sex Trafficking, considered a Class Two Felony, and one count of Assault, a Class One Misdemeanor. The charges relate to a 16-year-old who reportedly ran away from her home southeast of Dallas, and was later found being trafficked in Texas and Colorado before making contact with Rogers. Maricopa County Attorney's Office states that the indictment came after the girl was recovered by Phoenix Police in January.
According to law enforcement reports, Rogers allegedly purchased a bus ticket for the victim for her travel to New Mexico where he picked her up and took her to Phoenix. This case came to light when Phoenix Police received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which included a sex trafficking advertisement and information that led authorities to believe the girl was in Phoenix. Following the tip, they received additional information from a Texas agency, suggesting a possible address for the girl in Phoenix.
While an investigation into Rogers' connection with possible prostitution activities was underway, the girl reached out to the police herself and was subsequently recovered. Rogers was arrested and is now held on a $200,000 cash bond. Details about the recovery of the girl, or how she contacted the police have not been disclosed by the authorities
The trial date for Rogers has not yet been set, and he remains in custody on the charges mentioned. As per the American legal system, Rogers is presumed innocent until proven guilty, despite the serious nature of the accusations.
