
Yesterday, Jesse Garcia Jr., the man responsible for shooting three San Antonio police officers during a 2023 crime spree, was sentenced to 45 years in prison, as per FOX San Antonio. The sentencing followed his plea to 10 felony charges that included five counts of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer and two counts of Aggravated Robbery.
Details from the Bexar County court documents reveal that on August 24, 2023, Garcia Jr. carjacked an individual and subsequently engaged in gunfire with pursuing officers, which led to high-speed chase. He barricaded himself inside an apartment before his capture. According to KSAT, Garcia had a history of felony charges prior to this incident, which included felon in possession of a firearm and evading arrest. Following this most recent act, Garcia was branded by SAPD as a "very violent" and "dangerous" person.
Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales relayed the gravity of Garcia Jr.'s sentence. "Jesse Garcia, Jr. will have 45 years behind bars to consider the consequences of his actions. It is our hope that holding him accountable with this substantial prison sentence will bring some sense of justice to the brave officers who risked their lives in apprehending this defendant that day," he stated in comments obtained by FOX San Antonio.
The sentencing handed down by Judge Joel Perez includes 45 years for Garcia's first-degree felony charges and 10 years for his third-degree charges, to run concurrently. Garcia will be eligible for parole after having served half of his sentence. During the sentencing, victim impact statements were given by some of the officers involved in the incident, with KSAT providing a video of these compelling testimonials. The case against Garcia included an aggravated kidnapping charge.
