Consumers in Massachusetts have been alerted to a significant health and safety issue concerning a number of marijuana products found to be or potentially be contaminated with mold and yeast. According to a health and safety advisory issued by the Cannabis Control Commission on Monday, these products exceeded acceptable limits for contaminants and were sold at various retail dispensaries and treatment centers across the state.
The compromised marijuana products included several strains, notably Slap N Tickle, Tiger’s Eye, Carbon Fiber, Frosted Jungle, Highland OG, and Silver Kush. They were distributed between May 31, 2024, and January 23, Initially passing the required compliance tests between March and June 2024, these products later displayed yeast and mold levels above what is permitted after further testing. Despite the findings, there have been no reported illnesses related to these cannabis items thus far.
Furthermore, in their advisory as reported by Boston 25 News, the CCC has provided an extensive list of the affected products, complete with batch numbers, and the dispensaries where they were available. These products span a range of marijuana flower and pre-rolls, raising concerns over the scope of potential exposure among consumers.
The commission has urged consumers in possession of the tainted marijuana to either destroy it or return it for proper disposal to the store where it was purchased. In the event somebody experiences adverse health effects after using these products, they should seek medical attention and inform their marijuana retailer. The exact extent of the contamination and impact remains under investigation, and the products in question may undergo confirmatory retesting before they can be re-released to the public.
