Maui County Announces Closures and Modified Service Hours in Observance of Presidents’ DaySource: Google Street View

Maui County offices and a number of amenities stand shuttered in observance of Presidents’ Day on Monday, February 17. Among the facilities pausing their operations are all County of Maui offices, community pools, along with the Lahaina Resource Center, Recovery Permit Center, and landfills across Hāna, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi, per a recent update from the County of Maui.

Adjustments in service hours, they won't be business as usual for the Central Maui Landfill and Maui EKO Compost, which will run from 6 a.m. to noon, also the Olowalu Recycling & Refuse Convenience Center is set to operate on a condensed holiday schedule from 8 a.m. to noon, ensuring that even on a day off, residents have access to essential waste management services. These modified schedules have been confirmed by the County’s official announcement.

However, not all services will be put on hold; essential services such as residential trash pickup and public transportation will be unaffected. The Maui Bus will operate on its regular schedule, providing essential transportation for the county's transit-dependent residents.

On the rebound from the holiday closure, normalcy resumes post haste as County offices and services are slated to kick back into their routine starting Tuesday, February 18 – all departments back to their regular business schedules and community services, like pools and the Recovery Permit Center, will reopen for their normal service hours.
