
Mayor Muriel Bowser will launch the Youth Development Professional Certification program, a partnership between the DC Department of Parks and Recreation and the George Washington University Center for Excellence in Public Leadership. This new initiative offers a nine-month, fully-funded certification to 30 individuals in the youth development sector. The launch event will take place at 11 a.m. today at George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs in the City View Room, as per the DC.gov.
The program aims to support personal and professional growth for adult learners committed to mentoring and community engagement with youth. The program’s goal is to mentor and support youth effectively in different educational and community environments.
Mayor Bowser will be joined at the event by Thenie Freeman, Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, as well as academic leaders from George Washington University, including Liesl Riddle, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Professional Studies, and Natalie K. Houghtby-Haddon, Ph.D., Executive Director of the GW Center for Excellence in Public Leadership.
