The Memphis Police Department has taken to social media to report a string of shoplifting incidents across the city, highlighting a concerning trend of retail thefts that have occurred over the past week. The series of posts on the MPD's official Facebook page detailed separate events at a Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, Marshalls, O'Reilly Auto Parts, and Dollar General, disclosing suspect descriptions and requesting public assistance to track down the alleged perpetrators.

On Monday, February 10, 2025, officers responded to a shoplifting at 2134 Frayser Boulevard at Family Dollar, where a suspect, described as a Black male roughly 40 to 45 years of age with black hair and a black and gray beard, reportedly took items including a bed comforter set and an air mattress totaling $82 in value; the suspect then made his exit in a dark-colored van, according to the Memphis Police Department est.1827 Facebook. In a separate incident at a Dollar Tree, a man engaged in a brazen act when he took advantage of the cashier opening the cash register to grab approximately $380 before fleeing, last seen on Perkins in a gray Chevrolet Silverado. Both cases remain under investigation, with authorities urging anyone with information to reach out to the respective GIB stations.

Marshalls on 3001 Covington Pike was hit by shoplifters on two occasions, both involving the theft of clothing with the first instance valuing around $500 and the second estimated at $700; the suspects from these instances still remain at large as well. In an incident at O’Reilly Auto Parts, an older Black male in a gray jumpsuit allegedly made away with a new battery worth $293 while employees were distracted by his request for assistance. At Dollar General, meanwhile, two individuals reportedly filled their backpacks with merchandise before leaving the premises, with the value of the stolen goods yet to be determined.

The Memphis Police have made no arrests yet in connection with these events. In their Misdemeanor Monday posts, they’ve shared photos and videos of suspects, hoping the public will provide tips. They encourage citizens to report any relevant information to the Austin Peay GIB using the listed phone numbers, asking for community help to address the recent rise in thefts across Memphis.
