The Metropolitan Police Department has reported the swift capture of an individual tied to a series of violent crimes in the District. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect was apprehended following a carjacking and subsequent robbery that transpired on Sunday, highlighting the quick response of local law enforcement.
The incident began shortly before 3 a.m. when a ride-share driver, located on the 300 block of 15th Street, Northeast, became a victim of a carjacking. Subsequently, a second individual, on their way home, faced the threat of gunpoint and was robbed of their possessions near the 800 block of Barnaby Street, Southeast. The Metropolitan Police's Real Time Crime Center played a pivotal role in locating the stolen vehicle, their work aiding officers in swiftly moving to detain the suspect and neutralizing the threat he posed to the community.
Arrested in this succession of events was 33-year-old Parren Hawkins from Northeast, DC, who is now facing charges of both Armed Carjacking and Armed Robbery. Police intercepted Hawkins in the 700 block of Bonini Road, Southeast, where officers recovered not only the stolen property but also the firearm used in the commission of these crimes.
