Residents of Northwest can breathe a bit easier today; the Metropolitan Police Department just put one suspected package thief behind bars. On the afternoon of February 10, police responded to a call on the 1800 block of 6th Street, Northwest.

It seems that a vigilant eye and some timely investigative work paid off. MPD officers were on the move after surveillance video captured footage of a man stealing a package from the stoop of a victim's home. The suspect then made his exit, presumably believing he'd successfully lifted an easy prize.

The Metropolitan Police Department reports that officers canvassed the neighborhood post-haste. In a turn of what some might call poetic justice, the very same suspect was spotted loitering in the vicinity.

With the suspect detained, identification wasn't much of an issue. Michael Mitchell, a 33-year-old resident of Northeast, DC, found himself in custody, charged with Theft (Second Degree).
