The Metropolitan Police Department is reaching out to the community, seeking help in a peculiar case: a statue heist. Sometime between midnight and early afternoon on January 24, a bronze dog statue was taken from a Southeast dog park. The hefty artwork, tipping the scales at around 500 pounds, was last seen in the 1000 block of L Street, Southeast.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department press release, the search is on for any clues that could lead to its recovery. Details on the missing statue are scarce, but the MPD has provided a photo for those who might come across this sizeable bronze canine.
Police urge anyone with information to avoid direct involvement, as it may hinder the investigation. Instead, they ask people to call the MPD at (202) 727-9099 or text tips to 50411. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered to encourage witnesses to come forward and help with the investigation.
