The Metropolitan Police Department is actively seeking assistance from locals to find the suspects involved in a recent assault that took place in Northwest, Washington, D.C. In a violent encounter that left a store employee injured, the incident unfolded after a shoplifting episode turned dangerous.
According to the official MPD press release, it was on the Sunday afternoon of February 9, when officers from the Fourth District rushed to a store located on the 6200 block of Georgia Avenue. Here, at around 4:49 p.m., they discovered a suspect had stabbed an employee with a knife, following a confrontation over alleged shoplifting. A second perpetrator escalated the situation further, by brandishing a handgun and threatening the same employee, the tension did not resolve without violence.
The suspects fled the scene before the police arrived. Nonetheless, the injured party was quickly attended to and transported to a nearby hospital by DC Fire and EMS for emergency medical treatment. As law enforcement works to solve this case, they have disclosed a surveillance photo of one of the alleged assailants, requesting community members to come forward with any relevant information that might lead to an arrest.
Officials urge those with knowledge about the suspects to refrain from direct engagement, but rather to report any tips to the MPD by calling (202) 727-9099, or texting the tip line at 50411. As strong encouragement for public cooperation, the department has announced a reward of up to $10,000. This financial incentive is available to anyone whose information leads to the arrest, and conviction of the individuals responsible for the crime.
