Tomorrow, Miami-Dade County gears up for a critical conversation on its transit future. In an event facilitated by Community Newspapers, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava will team up with leaders from Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) to delve into the latest transit initiatives shaping the county. The gathering is a celebration of the second year of the CITT Ambassador Program, an innovative effort to place the power in the hands of transit riders, as per the county's official announcement.
Mayor Levine Cava and CITT officials will take the stage at Casa Cuba restaurant, located in South Miami, for this function. The tell-all discussion kicks off early at 07:30 a.m., offering insights until 09:00 a.m. Community engagement is the focal point of this event, with the notable recognition of the 2024 CITT Ambassador of the Year. The ambassadors, essentially the voice of the people, complete surveys about their experiences in transit through an online app managed by a company named Velocia.
The CITT Ambassador Program aims to bridge the gap between users and providers. By collecting first-hand accounts from frequent riders, the program doesn't only echo user sentiment but also informs the Department of Transportation and Public Works. This feedback contributes to the evolution of the transit system, ensuring that Surtax-funded assets maintain their intended service quality. Miami’s Community Newspapers, the event organizer, extends openness through these platforms, inviting participatory democracy in conversations about public transportation — infrastructure that holds our communities' lifelines.
As shared by Miami-Dade's official release, attendees can look forward to not only groundbreaking dialogue but also the chance for brief interviews and snapshots with notable figures like Mayor Levine Cava, Robert Wolfarth, the CITT Chair, and Meg Daly, a valued trust member.
