Following a vehicle theft and subsequent pursuit, a 21-year-old suspect, Jah Tamir Craigs, was apprehended in Moorpark on Thursday. According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, the incident began with the theft of a key fob from a vehicle on Vista Levana Drive on January 26, which later led to the stolen vehicle being spotted and a chase initiated by Moorpark Patrol deputies.
The pursuit, although brief, led to Craigs colliding with two other vehicles before fleeing on foot, subsequent to deputies losing sight of the vehicle. As reported by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, the crashed vehicle was found on Simmons Way and an unregistered loaded handgun was discovered nearby. Despite an initial failure to locate the suspect, resources including K9 and Aviation Units from the Sheriff’s Office were deployed for an extensive search.
In a twist of fate, an observant local contacted authorities after noticing Craigs acting suspiciously around Elk Run Loop and Spring Road. Deputies swiftly responded, confirming the man’s identity as the driver from the earlier chase. The Ventura County Main Jail is now holding Craigs on multiple charges including unlawful vehicle taking, identity theft, felony evading, and being a felon in possession of a firearm, as confirmed by the Sheriff's Office press release.
