An early morning collision on Monday resulted in the death of a motorcyclist in Las Vegas, marking the city's 30th traffic-related fatality this year. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the fatal accident involving a vehicle and motorcycle occurred at the intersection of South Fort Apache Road and West Sunset Road around 3:37 a.m. The motorcyclist, a 36-year-old male whose name has yet to be released pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Evidence, including witness statements and footage from surveillance video, suggest that the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Sunset Road on a red light at remarkably high speeds. The motorcyclist, who was operating a 2024 Harley Davidson RH975S Nightster, collided with a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse SUV as it was legally crossing the intersection on a solid green signal. During the incident, the motorcyclist had entered the intersection and made contact with the vehicle's right side, causing him to be ejected onto the road, as reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated that the Chevrolet's driver, 21-year-old Jake Caday of Las Vegas, sustained claimed injuries and remained at the scene following the collision. Caday cooperated with the investigation, which showed no signs of impairment as he drove. First responders provided life-saving attempts to the motorcyclist, but despite their efforts, he was declared deceased through telemetry with a doctor at the UMC Trauma Center. This incident is even more tragic as it marks the 30th traffic-related death in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction in 2025.
