A tragic collision on Nolensville Pike in South Nashville claimed the life of a motorcyclist Monday evening. Authorities from the Metro Nashville Police Department confirmed that the accident, involving a motorcycle and a vehicle, occurred around 6 p.m. near the intersection with Haywood Lane. 25-year-old Austin Harrison was identified as the deceased, as reported by WKRN.
Harrison was reportedly riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle and, according to police statements cited by WSMV, he was traveling at a high rate of speed between two outbound lanes when the crash occurred. The motorcyclist collided with the passenger’s side of a Honda Civic, which was executing a left turn onto Haywood Lane. The incident led to injuries for two female occupants of the Honda, who were later taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the crash, Harrison was also transported to the same medical center, where he later died from his injuries. According to officials, Harrison was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and there were no signs of impairment found at the scene. The driver of the Honda, a 20-year-old individual, was cited for driving without a license, as stated by FOX 17. Despite the Honda having the green light at the time of the crash, the absence of a green turn arrow is an important detail noted in the investigation.
In response to the fatal incident, the Metro Nashville Police Department has issued a reminder to motorcyclists concerning road safety. "Be visible, give yourself space, be aware of other motorists’ blind spots and wear a helmet," the police advised in a statement obtained by WKRN.
