Union Station, a transportation hub known for its bustling activity, has become the focus of a homicide investigation following the fatal shooting of a man yesterday. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is seeking information about the incident inside the Union Station parking garage.
The event took place at approximately 4:37 p.m. yesterday when Amtrak Police were alerted to gunshots in the vicinity of the station's bus waiting area. MPD's First District officers, in conjunction with various law enforcement partners, arrived at the scene to discover a male victim who was found near the escalators leading to the parking garage. Despite officers' attempts to render lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene; D.C. Fire and EMS also arrived, but the efforts were in vain; the victim's identity is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The MPD has released images obtained from surveillance cameras in the hope that the public can assist in identifying the perpetrator. The department is urging anyone with knowledge of this incident to refrain from taking action but instead, contact police at (202) 727-9099 or send a text tip to 50411. As part of their ongoing efforts to seek justice, MPD is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that results in the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the homicide.
