The Metropolitan Police Department is turning to the local community for assistance after a theft and assault incident rocked a Southeast neighborhood. The crime, occurring in broad daylight on a Sunday evening, saw an adult male victim fall prey to an assault as multiple suspects attempted to rob an establishment on the Unit block of I Street, Southeast, according to the MPD.
First District officers rushed to the scene around 6:13 p.m. after receiving a report of an ongoing theft, only to find that the assailants had fled with stolen property. In an appeal to the public, the MPD released surveillance images of the suspects and requested help identifying and locating them. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
While the police are intensifying their search, they urge anyone with information to exercise caution, "Anyone who can identify these suspects or who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411," the MPD guided in their statement. The captured images of the suspects have been circulated in an effort to harness community support in the wake of the crime.
