Traffic on Interstate 24 experienced significant disruptions following a multi-vehicle crash near the Old Fort Parkway exit in Murfreesboro, headed toward Nashville. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, resulted in the closure of two lanes, causing considerable congestion for commuters. The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office reported on the accident and the subsequent traffic snarl that unfolded, urging drivers to seek alternate routes.
Attempting to mitigate the traffic gridlock, Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputies, together with Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers and Tennessee Department of Transportation workers, were dispatched to the scene. They were on the scene investigating and trying to clear, according to social media updates from the Sheriff’s Office. Motorists were advised to exit I-24 at South Church Street or New Salem Highway or to use U.S. Highway 70 (New Nashville Highway) as an alternative, which would allow them to reenter I-24 via Medical Center Parkway or Interstate 840.
Following several hours of efforts to manage the scene and ensure the safety of travelers, all lanes were eventually reopened. The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office updated commuters through their Facebook page: "UPDATE: All lanes have reopened." This update provided a sigh of relief to drivers who had been caught up in the traffic delays or who were planning to travel along this corridor as the roadway resumed normal traffic flow.
The quick response of local law enforcement and road crews demonstrated the coordinated efforts often necessary when addressing such highway emergencies. In the wake of the accident, the Sheriff's Office did not immediately disclose details regarding the cause of the crash or any injuries involved.
