Nashville authorities are calling on the public to help track down a hit-and-run driver linked to a collision that left a pedestrian in critical condition last weekend. The incident, which occurred in the 2200 block of 8th Avenue South near the Smiling Elephant restaurant, involved a red SUV, now being searched for by crash investigators.

The collision took place around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday. According to the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department's report, Josh T. Taylor, 40, had just parked his car on the east side of the avenue and was crossing the street when he was struck by the northbound vehicle. After being hit by the SUV, in a disturbing twist, Taylor was further injured as he was knocked down onto the roadway and was then struck by a second car.

The second car's driver, unlike the person behind the wheel of the SUV, remained at the scene until law enforcement arrived.

"Anyone with information about the driver of the SUV," should call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463, the direct appeal to the community states. Adding to the efforts, a surveillance video that may contain evidence of the incident has been made available for public viewing on the department's website.
