A traffic stop in Mt. Juliet escalated when a Nashville man, a passenger in the car, fled the scene and assaulted a pursuing officer. The stop was initiated for illegal window tint and failure to signal on Lebanon Road near Matterhorn Drive. According to WKRN, the 36-year-old suspect was wanted in Nashville and was apprehended after a short chase.

The driver, a woman, and an 8-year-old passenger stayed in the car as the suspect ran towards Tulip Grove Road. The Mt. Juliet Police Department (MJPD) officer gave chase, and a Taser was used in an attempt to stop the man. During the arrest, the officer was allegedly assaulted, suffering minor injuries. He was treated and released by on-scene medics. "MJPD remains committed to pushing back against cross-border criminal activity," the Mt. Juliet Police Department said on their post on X.

Additional MJPD officers arrived to assist with the arrest. The suspect was taken to the hospital at his request as a precaution. Further investigation revealed that the man had warrants in three counties, including probation violations for serious offenses. FOX 17 reported that the charges included felony domestic assault, aggravated assault, violation of an order of protection, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

During the arrest, a passerby questioned the jurisdiction of the MJPD officers since the stop occurred just inside Hermitage. The officers clarified that they have the authority to stop offenders for violations in their city, even if the stop occurs outside the city limits. They further explained that their officers routinely patrol areas near the county line to prevent crime from affecting their community.
