A Nevada parolee was taken into custody after authorities discovered a range of prohibited weapons, including a functioning cannon, in his home. Garret Ferguson was found to be in violation of his parole conditions earlier this month.
The Nevada State Police Parole and Probation Division intervened on February 6 after concerns were raised about Ferguson's compliance with his supervised parole. According to 2News, individuals under such supervision are prohibited from possessing weapons, a rule that Ferguson violated.
With assistance from the Reno Police Department Gun Crime Intelligence Center and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, authorities conducted a search of Ferguson's residence. The search resulted in the recovery of a cannon, 16 firearms, several knives, machetes, swords, and items related to drug use, as reported by KOLO-TV.
Following his arrest, Ferguson was booked into the Washoe County Jail. According to 2News, he faces charges of contempt of court and violating the terms of his parole. The Reno Police Department and the FBI, both involved in the case, may file additional charges as the investigation continues.
