The residents and commuters of New Castle, who have grown accustomed to navigating the construction landscape at US Highway 6, can now expect a brief hiatus from the detours and traffic cones. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced a seasonal pause on the roundabout project at this juncture, according to an official statement. Work is set to reconvene as the thaw of early spring sets in, with the entire endeavor expected to be completed by May 2025.
While the advent of winter often slings the ice and snow that compels cities to hunker down, it cannot halt the flow of traffic for long. The roundabout stands as a fully operational nexus, shepherding vehicles along uninterrupted pathways. Temporary pavement, lain down like a quick fix in anticipation of colder months, marks the accesses at City Market and Maverik and stretches northbound from Castle Valley Boulevard to the edges of the current project. This makeshift solution will suffice until the crews come marching back, as per CDOT.
With longer days and warmer rays on the horizon, the temporary surfaces will be supplanted by the lasting embrace of permanent asphalt pavement. The remaining tasks include the meticulous crafting of median spaces and the infusion of color concrete, followed by the gentle touch of landscaping to marry the new infrastructure with its natural surroundings. As the weather reigns unpredictably, the schedule for these remaining actions will hinge upon its temperament, with updates to be communicated in due course.
