Residents and commuters in New Orleans should be aware of a temporary road closure at Washington Avenue and S. Derbigny Street, starting yesterday at noon and lasting until 5 p.m. the next day. This closure is part of the DPS01 Watershed Drainage Upgrades and Green Infrastructure Project aimed at reducing flooding and improving green infrastructure in Broadmoor and Central City, as per City of New Orleans.

The project, led by Impetus Infrastructure, LLC and designed by CDM Smith Inc., focuses on upgrading waterlines and stormwater drainage to reduce flooding and improve green infrastructure. During construction, from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to sunset, traffic on Washington Avenue will be detoured to Toledano Street to manage vehicle flow.

The project aims to add storage, infiltration, and filtration features, along with necessary pipe and street upgrades, to manage runoff. These solutions will slow and capture rainwater as it moves through the city. The upgrades also include improvements to the water and sewer systems affected by the stormwater changes.
