Attention all Bossier City motorists, get ready to adjust your travel plans on I-20 East as the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development moves into the next stage of the major interstate rehab project. Come February 5 and 6, there's a new traffic pattern kicking in. According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the eastbound traffic will be shifting from the outer lanes onto the fresh concrete of the inside lanes, starting at the Red River Bridge and stretching just beyond Hamilton Road.
This switch will mean some full closures of the eastbound interstate from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., but don't worry too much — they're planning to keep it to "brief intervals." It's all in the service of demolishing and removing the old outside lanes, moving one step closer towards the project's completion. You will still be able to take exit 20B at Benton Road, offering at least one point of reprieve in the midst of construction, as reported by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
Hold tight, because this isn't the end of it. according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development's announcement, the westbound lanes will get their turn in the upcoming weeks. We'll keep you posted on that front. For now, phase 3 is in full swing, including a total reconstruction from Hamilton Road all the way to Industrial Drive, not to mention the ramp work at Barksdale Blvd, Benton Road, and Airline Drive interchanges.
The previous phase, for those keeping track, handled the insides of these lanes, plus ramps at Old Minden Rd. and Industrial Drive. If you're wondering when all this dust will settle, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development reckons we're looking at late 2025, or maybe dipping into early 2026, weather and the usual caveats allowing. And a heads-up for the commercial motor vehicle folks — 18-wheelers are still getting a red light through the construction zone. Your detour is over on I-220, to keep things moving smoothly and safely.
