An unknown individual in North Austin is now significantly wealthier after purchasing a winning lottery ticket worth $83.5 million. The Texas Lottery officials announced late on Monday night that the lucky ticket was sold at a local convenience store, Winners Corner, situated at 7817 Rockwood Lane, CBS Austin reports.
The jackpot, which had been accumulating since June 2024, finally found its match when one ticket holder struck all six correct numbers in Monday's Lotto Texas with Extra! draw. This payout happens to be the fifth largest in the game's history and is notable for ending what has been the longest stretch without a winner. As the pot grew from $75.5 million at the beginning of February, the game even surpassed global giants Mega Millions and Powerball, at one point boasting the world's largest jackpot at $73.5 million. The winning digits for the impressive sum were 19-21-25-45-47-52, KVUE details.
While the identity of the new multi-millionaire remains a mystery, they have a six-month window to come forward and claim their windfall, adhering to Texas state law. The decision to remain anonymous or to publicly share their news is solely up to the winner. Lottery officials have not yet released any further details about the winner's identity.
Drawing times for the Lotto Texas numbers are set for each Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:12 p.m. It remains to be seen whether the lucky winner from Austin will choose to reveal themselves and share what they plan to absolutely do with their newfound fortune.
