Last Monday, an ordinary anniversary dinner quickly turned into a scene of valor as JSO Officer Malik Daricaud and his wife, Jasmine, leapt into action to aid a driver involved in a rollover accident on Jacksonville's Westside. According to a Facebook post from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the off-duty officer and his wife were en route to celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary when they came across an SUV flipped onto its side.
With no thoughts evidently for their own safety, Jasmine Daricaud quickly exited the vehicle to assist the driver, while Officer Daricaud, working through his own mobility challenges from a prior shooting incident, used the couple's van to securely block the road and called 911. His quick thinking ensured that emergency services were promptly on their way to the scene. The couple's personal dash camera captured the incident, showing Jasmine and other bystanders working together to safely extract the driver, who fortunately sustained only minor injuries.
Jasmine's recent completion of CPR and First Aid training through their church doubtlessly prepared her well for such an emergency. This training likely gave her the crucial confidence needed to effectively handle the unexpected situation. Officer Daricaud, in adoration of his wife's actions, was quoted saying, “Reason #456 why my wife of seven years is remarkable!”, detailed by the Jacksonville Police Department Facebook post.
Recovering from a spinal cord injury sustained in the line of duty back in 2023 has not kept Officer Daricaud from continuing to serve his community. He now works at the JSO's Real-Time Crime Center where he utilizes advanced technology to help prevent and effectively to solve crimes. His resilience and Jasmine's courage on that eventful evening serve as a testament to their commitment to public service and to each other. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office ended their post by extending a bravo and a happy anniversary to the couple.
