An incident at Pittsburgh International Airport has resulted in charges for an Ohio woman after security officials discovered a firearm in her carry-on. Allegheny County police reported that 44-year-old Rachel Scott-Roth from Belmont, Ohio, was stopped at the airport's main security checkpoint on Sunday when a Transportation Security Administration officer found a handgun inside her luggage. WTAE disclosed that Scott-Roth lacked a valid concealed carry permit for the weapon.
The county police took over the situation, and Scott-Roth now faces a misdemeanor charge for carrying a firearm without a license. This arrest adds to the growing tally of firearm recoveries at Pittsburgh International Airport this year, marking the fifth occasion. In a statement reported by WTAE, the Allegheny County police emphasized, "Passengers who bring firearms into an airport security checkpoint can face federal civil fines from the Transportation Security Administration up to $10,000. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $13,910."
Anyone found to be bringing a gun to an airport security checkpoint can be met with significant federal civil fines, even for a first offense. As reported by Audacy, fines can ascend to $10,000.
