The National Weather Service in Oklahoma City has issued a Cold Weather Advisory effective until 9 AM CST this morning. Residents across central, northwest, southwest, and western Oklahoma are advised to take precautions against very cold wind chills, which can drop as low as 5 degrees below zero, according to the National Weather Service.
With the advisory in place, dangerously low wind chills are expected to pose risks of frostbite and hypothermia. The National Weather Service urges the public to wear appropriate clothing, including a hat and gloves, if venturing outside. The current conditions show a humidity of 81%, with a wind chill making the air feel like -5°F. The National Weather Service stresses the importance of dressing adequately to avoid the harmful impacts of these temperatures.
The forecast for the coming days in Oklahoma City indicates a trend towards warmer weather, however. Today expect sunny skies with a high near 32 degrees, with light and variable winds in the afternoon. Tonight, partly cloudy conditions are expected, pairing with a low around 22, and a south wind at 5 to 9 mph, as reported by the National Weather Service.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the forecast predicts partly sunny skies with a high near 48 degrees on Friday and wind speeds increasing significantly. Showers may grace the region Friday night and into Saturday, with south wind gusts potentially reaching as high as 28 mph. Despite the slight warming trend, a return to colder temperatures, including a potential mix of rain and snow, is anticipated by Tuesday, with chances of snow continuing through Wednesday, as per the National Weather Service.
