Allegations of abuse within the Hugo Public Schools have prompted an investigation by the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE), as confirmed by a press release on Saturday. The state body took measures following a report of repeated misconduct received by local law enforcement. According to KFOR, the nature of these allegations has not been made public but has resulted in swift action from Oklahoma State Department of Education.
In response to the distressing claims, State Superintendent Ryan Walters expressed his concern and gratitude towards law enforcement for their responsiveness. "I am deeply troubled by the allegations out of Hugo today and greatly appreciate local law enforcement for immediately bringing the issue to our attention," Walters said in a statement obtained by NewsOn6. Although details are scarce, it has been disclosed that employees implicated in these allegations have been temporarily removed from their positions during the ongoing investigation.
Walters assured that the well-being of students in Oklahoma is of utmost priority and stated that the education system and its employees shall be provided with the necessary support to ensure a secure environment for all students. Additionally, the Oklahoma State Department of Education has encouraged individuals with knowledge of any misconduct within the state's schools to step forward and report via the Awareity Reporting System, which is designed to hold all members of the school community accountable.
This call for transparency and action is complemented by Oklahoma State Department of Education's appeal to the public, urging those with information pertaining to these specific allegations against Hugo school employees or any other school-related wrongdoings to report through the anonymous platform provided. KOCO reports that, thus far, additional details including specific nature of the allegations and identities of those involved have been withheld from public release while the investigation is in progress.
