A plane crash at Scottsdale Airport yesterday resulted in one fatality and left three others injured. The incident involved a Learjet 35A that was arriving from Austin when, according to reports, it suffered a landing gear malfunction upon touchdown. This equipment failure led the aircraft to swerve off the runway and collide with a stationary Gulfstream 200 jet.
Emergency services, including personnel from Scottsdale Fire Station 609, were quick to respond to the crash, arriving at the scene within one minute of the event. Tragically, one individual was pronounced dead at the scene, while three others were injured and transported to local Valley hospitals for medical attention. An additional person involved elected to refuse treatment. According to Scottsdale Aviation Director Gary P. Mascaro, "I am extremely grateful to the first responders and airport operations staff on scene today for their swift action and service," a statement obtained by the City of Scottsdale.
The accident has prompted a temporary closure of Scottsdale Airport, with a reopening time undetermined as of now. As authorities deal with the aftermath of this unfortunate event, the public has been advised to keep a distance from the area. The National Transportation Safety Board has taken charge of the investigation, seeking to uncover the detailed cause behind the crash.
In a heartfelt statement, Mascaro expressed the sorrow felt by those connected with the airport saying, "We offer our deepest condolences to those affected by this tragedy." Nonetheless, the constant ebb and flow of aviation carries its own risks, which have manifested in stark reality with this recent accident. Updates on the investigation and airport operational status are anticipated to follow as more information is made available by officials, as reported by the City of Scottsdale.
